The channel was launched on December 20, 1996 in
as a cartoon-oriented channel, being the main competitor of , which was launched three years before. In 1999, Nickelodeon launched its official website for the region, . "Nick Radio" was also available, but eventually it was replaced by the

Nickelodeon Latin America is divided into three different feeds for its transmission in the Latin American region.
North: Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic in NTSC transmission.
Central: Colombia, Central America, Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia in NTSC transmission.
South: Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay in PAL transmission.
