只有在中创造或生存模式(默认地图类型)或者多人游戏中且非限制末地状态下才可以进入末路之地。在单人游戏的非创造模式中,玩家必须通过击杀末影人收集至少12枚末影珍珠(看地牢的传送门默认有多少个末影珍珠,最多3个),制造通往下层世界(地牢)的传送门,在那里从烈焰人身上收集至少六份烈焰棒,并将其合成成为烈焰粉。这两种素材可一并合成出末影之眼,或直接把末影珍珠在熔炉里烧掉,也能得到末影之眼。之后,玩家需要回到现实世界中,定位要塞。非创造模式可以将末影之眼扔到天空中来定位方向,扔向天空的眼睛将会掉落在陆地上,可以被收集重新使用。建议玩家多制造几个眼睛,因为他们会在进入末路之地后消失。另一方面,玩家需要寻找一个放有末地传送门框架的房间,如果有地牢或者废弃矿井在这个房间出现,一些传送门的方块也许会消失,就不能使用了。为了能使传送门启动,玩家必须z站在中间把每一个传送门框架中插入末影之眼。一个启动的传送门允许玩家立即进入末路之地,出现在一个末路之地中的5*5的黑曜石平台。目前已确认黑曜石平台的中心总是在坐标0,72,0处。 有的种子出现的平台位于浮岛外,一走出就会坠入虚空,这种情况下就要通过在平台旁边安放方块延伸到岛屿(可用潜行),或者用末影珍珠来实现瞬移。在1.9pre5中,在多人游戏中进入末路之地的传送门将会使玩家出生于末路之地中一个完全空旷的位置,该空间定位在距离单人模式传送到的那个0,72,0的坐标4000格之外。如果玩家是多人游戏中的OP的话,那么该玩家可以使用 1.7.10-使用:【/give指令给其他玩家编号119物品,也就是末路之地传送门方块,可以允许玩家直接从普通世界跳入该传送门,直接进入末路之地。也可将90号物品:下界的传送门方块给玩家,这样他们可以通过下界传送门返回普通世界的出生点。】1.8+无法使用,除非TMI NEI修改器创造模式下,玩家可以自己独立制造出一个末路之地传送门。然而,为了这样做,必须放置于高度64以下。还必须放置在较为昏暗的地方,而且要确保传送门的砖块能正确地排成一条直线,而且附近不允许出现另外的一个传送门。如果这些条件全部符合,那么可以制造出一个末路之地传送门。

在早期版本中,末路之地另外一个被人们所熟知的是“天域”,在那里,有着和现实世界中一样的砖块和生物。Notch是在他闲聊关于“末影人”名字更换的建议时第一次提到末路之地的,当人们想要把末影人的名字改为“远方的人”(出自于“边境之地”(Far land)一词)时,他笑称与其把末影人重命名叫“远方的人”,他更愿意把那个地方的名字“很远的地方”改成“末路之地”。在之后的那个Beta版更新中,边境之地被突然移除了,末路之地成为了末影人真正的家园。末路之地在日的Beta1.9pre4更新中加入。Notch发过一条推特,写着“raqreqentba”,用ROT13暗号翻译过来就是“enderdragon”。一个编辑组的ID为“cptqwashi”的用户发帖说会有一个新的维度空间,可以通过一种新的方块“末地传送门框架”来进入那个被称为“末路之地”的地方。而且那里是末影人和末影龙的家乡。Notch不久就发表信息回复称cptqwashi所给出的消息“100%正确”。在pre4中,出生在传送门附近的末影龙会立刻摧毁传送门,但是末路之地的传送门方块将会继续起作用,即使框架被摧毁。而单人创造模式下制造传送门框架的能力也被移除了。
末路之地同普通世界的保存方法一样,但是换成了保存在存档文件夹的混合的世界文件里,这个文件位置在appdata/.Minecraft/Saves/Worldname/DIM1里面,普通的世界文件保存在%appdata%/.Minecraft/Saves/Worldname里。记住,DIM1并不包含level.,末路之地的level.dat文件同主世界和下界的位置一样。同样的,记住下界的文件夹名称是“DIM-1”。
在末地中,无限的天空被空气填满,也许会与下界相反,下界中的无限洞穴是被很多地狱岩覆盖的。末地传送门框架可以用作弊器调出来,但是最后一个方块块必须放在框架里面。末地传送门可以永久的被流动的水或岩浆关闭。重新启动需要使用修改器重置其中一个传送门方块。当在要塞里出生时,末地传送门被蠹虫刷怪箱保护着。在要塞中找到的传送门也许就是末影人超越自身维度,来到现实世界的方法。生物的习性、植物的生长、药水的制作以及施咒在末路之地里没有明显影响。(除了使用小麦来引诱动物)和下界不同,雪傀儡在末地能正常生存,并会攻击附近的末影人。在高度(y轴)接近于0时,虚无的颗粒依然存在。在末地的传送门是开启终末之诗的唯一途径。(此动画可通过Esc键跳过)下界的传送门不能在末地启动。建议进入末地时带着南瓜,出于有大量的末影人住在这。若黑曜石平台生成于浮空岛内部,上方3格的方块将被清除。当你每一次传送至末地时,黑曜石平台上3格的所有方块都会被删除在末地中的岩浆流速很快,但比水要慢如果你在末路之地使用90号方块(就是下界传送门方块),你可以进入下界,不过有时你会被传送到一个暗红色的空间,你的手和拿着的东西都是黑色的,而且里面什么都没有,重新打开一次就会好。(并不是掉入了虚空)末路之地也有虚无区域,只不过看不出来,因为空岛之外只有空气方块。有几率出现两条末影龙。(极小几率,是因为系统没有检测到末影龙,又刷了一条。)
有的时候也会重复刷末影龙是区块重新加载导致的。ps:如果在末路之地睡觉,床会爆炸。
