What the developers have to say:
Why Early Access?
&Reign Of Kings is an Early Access game. This means you will experience our core pillars of the game and our framework. However, the game is a work in progress, and therefore contains a variety of bugs, and anything is subject to change. We look forward to community feedback and we hope you can help us make this a great game!&
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
&We are planning a full release sometime this year.&
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
&We're using Early Access to add more content and balance game mechanics through community input and our vision for the game. Once we hit the beta period, we will be focusing on gameplay balancing and bug fixing. The full release would be a conclusion to the development process.&
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
&We believe our current release contains many of the core features we have been aiming for, and consider the game a late alpha. The first release features crafting, refining, base building, melee and ranged combat, survival, siege combat, character customization, multiplayer, capturing, execution devices, and becoming the king. However, expect saved games/servers to reset during updates as that is a normal part of Early Access development.&
Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
&At this time we have no plans on increasing the price throughout Early Access. However, the game may be put on sale at different times during the Early Access period. The price may change upon full release.&
How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
&We look forward to community feedback and suggestions on the game. We believe the community plays an important role in helping us craft a better game. Community suggestions will internally be weighed against our vision in order to help us prioritize and polish the most important aspects of the game. While we do not have time to respond to everyone, we always read all of our feedback and seriously consider each opinion.&

Recent updates
This weeks update contains some massive changes. Official servers have been wiped, and you will need to also wipe your community servers after the update due to extensive changes.
We've switched the engine to Unity5 from Unity4. This process took quite sometime, as many key areas changed such as rendering and physics. As a result, you should notice a number of performance improvements. The physics engine is now multi-threaded, and there are additional improvements to the rendering and rendering pipeline. Big bases should now also run much faster, and block LOD's should switch faster due to our own improvements.
We've also incorporated some more anti-hacking features such as fly detection and teleport detection. It is a config option that servers can turn on if they wish. The first ban waves were handed out as well this week, 377 hackers were banned from game via EAC for using a $13 dollar hack. Do not hack or you risk having your account banned from using the game.
Please follow this guide for properly updating your community server, as the save file location has changed:
We've also added a few new items, such as the Sawmill, Spinning Wheel, and various Costumes. The Sawmill is a new refining station require to turn wood into lumber. Costumes can be created at the Spinning Wheel along with the banners.
Going forward, we look forward to fixing bugs discovered from this update, working on further anti-cheat systems, and will be working on a decay system for old bases/floating bases that sit dormant on server too long to help clean up servers and further push the time between wipes.

Unfortunately we are not yet able to release our next update with contains the Unity5 upgrade this week. We tried really hard, and came really close to release, however, in our final testing we found a couple bugs that deal with animal spawning that have to be fixed in order to proceed. And we are having trouble pinning down the exact cause, so we cannot give an exact timeline, but hope to have the update out sometime next week. We plan not to wipe servers until next week, as the update will require a wipe, and we did not want to wipe and then have to wipe again next week (could be early or later in week).
The game is running much better as a result of Unity5, and also contains graphical improvements. Large bases especially run much faster. There were many things we had to update and change in order to get the project working well with Unity5, hence the extra time this update is taking.
Aside from that, the next update will contain a sawmill, spinning wheel, some outfits, and many bug fixes. We are also working on more hack prevention, and EAC plans to do an update next week to also help with this as well.

About This Game
Struggle to survive in a harsh medieval world. Hunt wildlife, mine resources, build structures, and craft weapons and armor in order to protect yourself. You may form a guild, bring war to all opposition, and try to seize the throne and become king!
In Reign of Kings we allow you to collect resources and craft a wide variety of items needed to build a vast and powerful kingdom. We were primarily inspired by Rust & Chivalry in the development of this game.
In addition to standard resources, you may compete over the Ancient Throne which resides in a throne room which overlooks the island. All players who are not part of the King's Guild are taxed on the resources they collect.
The development of a melee combat system adds a gritty and visceral feeling to Reign of Kings that will allow players to become deeply immersed in a realistic and intense medieval survival experience.
The world itself is designed to inspire competition and struggles for power.
Resource locations strategically spread throughout the game will create inequity and envy.
Players will have the ability to make war, or even capture and hold other players in order to get what they want.
Each player will have the power to decide the fate of the kingdom, or choose to entirely forego the responsibility of ruling the kingdom and roam the land as a freeman.
Players have the ability to capture, hold, and execute other players. The player can capture them with rope or iron shackles. Once shackled, a player is no longer able to access their inventory aside from their orifice slot. The captured player's inventory is accessible for the captor to search them.
Additionally, a rope will be attached to a prisoner which will allow them to be pulled in any direction their captor wishes. In order to avoid severe grieving situations, players can hide a sharp stone or lock pick in their orifice. This &hidden& item can help them escape capture or commit suicide.
PUNISHMENT & DEATH
Punishment & Death Once the player has control of a captive, there are several options available for managing a prisoner.
Options range from simply locking them in a cage or dungeon, public humiliation in the pillory, or simply executing them.
THE ANCIENT THRONE
The Ancient Throne can be claimed by any player. Holding the Ancient Throne will grant its owner dominion over the entire map (change name of realm) and taxation rights over every other player.
The King of the Ancient Throne will receive the ability to collect the resource tax from every player within the game by visiting the Ravens Treasure Tree. The ravens automatically collect taxes in the game (behind the scenes of course, sneaky little things), and place them in the chests in their Treasure Tree.
In addition, the King of the Ancient Throne will have access to the Ancient Sword and the Ancient Crown.
PRODUCTION & REFINING STATIONS
Players will have the ability to collect resources and to craft them into useful items or building materials. Additionally, the progression mechanic for being able to craft higher valued items will be reliant on upgrading production stations to a higher level.
(Need a better quality sword?
Upgrade your anvil.)
Production and refining stations can craft or refine items as long as there are resources available unless ordered to do otherwise.
This allows the player the freedom to do other things while his kingdom remains productive.
COLLECTION STATIONS
Collection stations can be placed for grain and water. Collection stations will passively produce raw materials given they have enough fuel.
These collection stations will be fully interactive and if left un-defended will offer a nice target for unscrupulous or enemy players.
With this in mind, the player will want to protect their resources.
SIEGE EQUIPMENT AND RAIDING BASES
Once the players build stone walls and iron doors, players will not be able to simply bash their way inside. Players will now need to employ one of many different techniques for entry.
The ranged option is to build trebuchets and launch large stones from afar at your opponent's castle. Players must place a counterweight to offset their projectile weight in order to get the range and destruction power they need from the stone they are launching. Players may also rotate the trebuchet. This alignment takes some practice but is very rewarding when set correctly.
Players may choose to go a more stealthy route by crafting lock picks. Lock picks, however, are very hard to craft, and do not work on iron doors and iron gates.
Players who like it up close and personal may use the explosive keg, which takes a very large amount of resources to craft, and you'll need a few of them to get through multi-layered walls.
Players defending a base may employ their own trebuchet or set up a ballista which is great for killing other players at range.
FIRST PERSON COMBAT
Our combat systems allow melee and ranged combat to take center stage when war breaks out. Inspired by games like Chivalry, Reign of Kings' combat system is being tuned for satisfying, fast paced action. Players fight over the scarce resources and face off to defend or capture the throne.
Players equip brutal weapons and use mouse buttons in an attempt to chop, slice, & stab through an opponent. Players will want to upgrade their weaponry to inflict the highest amount of damage as melee combat will always be dangerous and unpredictable.
Armor will be highly prized in Melee as it will keep you in a fight much longer.
We support delimbing and decapitation of an opponent to represent the visceral and brutal experience of medieval close-quarters warfare.
A variety of period realistic weapons and armor will be available for the player to craft as they progress toward elder content.
Ranged fighting in ROK will encompass the use of the bow, crossbow, javelin, and throwing stones. A good way for a player to stay alive in a fight during the early game will be to use ranged weaponry and speed.
Keeping out of sword range from a marauding knight is always a good idea, but even more so if you’re not equipped with the quality of armor that can absorb a hit or two.
A simple bow and spear may be capable of taking down wild game, but may not provide enough piercing power to get through the finest plate male.
It’ll be important for the player to learn what kinds of weaponry are most effective in a fight as it will be critical knowledge to stay alive and have impact in a fight.
Higher tier Steel-pointed javelins will be able to pierce some armors, but the crossbow is the best option for punching a hole through the most heavily plated opponent at range.
The general rules of ranged weaponry will apply in ROK to determine functionality.
The bow will have the highest accuracy and reload speed, the crossbow will have greatest piercing power but is slow to reload, and thrown weapons will have the highest damage output, but are for short range use only.
ROK features a plague-ridden village that was cursed and abandoned by the old gods. This village features plague-ridden villagers, loot crates, and some high-end loot drops. It is dangerous to be in the village for long periods of time due to the disease that will damage the player's health.
ROK uses a roguelike death model similar to Rust.
When players die, they will fall to the ground as a ragdoll container that can be looted by other players.
Dead players will be provided with a random re-spawn option that can be improved through bed placement.
CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION
Players begin the game by creating a unique character.
They will be able to refine their look in great detail by editing their body parts, choosing hair, and establishing a banner scheme to help them identify loyal friends during gameplay. You can also choose the voice style of your player's taunts.
Using the standard block, ramp and stairs, ROK building materials will consist of sticks, thatch, clay, wood, re-enforced wood, and stone.
Thatch, sticks, wood and clay will be widely available and often the first choice in material for beginning level housing. While these materials will offer shelter from poorly equipped enemies, they are easily breached by other players. Stone will offer much greater resistance to basic attacks and will only be damageable with siege tactics.
Players will be able to build their homes, towers and castles any way they like, but will need a great deal of space during elder content play in order to hold a large number of production, refining, and collection stations.
Building castles will be a natural occurrence for players who reach elder content gameplay.
With the large number of production stations, refining stations, collection stations, chests, torture devices and respawn beds available for the player to build, comes the need to protect a large footprint of space.

First off, if you're here to read fanny comments that all end in 10/10, stop that. This game is a cruel, cruel mistress. You will spend hours on end making the perfect base, walls, castles, you name it. It will be everything you ever imagined, or maybe even better. All the while you will have scars and experience that will stay with you till death. And despite the hackers, the people basing next to the main resource spawns, and the autists who roleplay and yell at everyone else to roleplay (despite the fact that they build floating bases instead of castles cause they don't wanna get raided) you will ultimately have fun. Should you be playing with friends then there's a good chance that you will become the kingpins of the server. And then, out of the blue, you will raid the wrong group of people, and their one salty friend with hacks will slay everybody on the server hundreds of times, destroy your base, and fly away, without getting banned and with no way to report them because they kept changing their names. Bottom line is that this game is good. Buggy and filled with hackers, but good. Should they add something like VAC and fix some of the problems then I could see myself coming back to it.Oh yeah, and you're gonna end up staying up till 3am a lot.

Honestly this review is incredibly biased so stop reading now if you do not want that.Pros-As of Alpha 10 combat is actually fair to both parties if your ping is under 130-The RP is glorious. Peasant revolts, slaves, and executions make the game entertaining and at time hilarious!-Great siege weapon physics-The community is a hell of a time-Devs are more active than a korean playing SC2-Whips whips whipsCons-Hackers out the tight peasants ????-Can become boring IF YOU'RE A PRICK WHO CAN'T RP. But if you have an imagination above the average dead sloth, you can have a lot of fun.-FPS is terrible on lower end machines (Constantly improving optimization)-Sometimes random things will glitch out, its so random im not gonna name themNow here for a little story about how talking ???? gets you rektMe and my boys are trolling down the road, gathering stone and doing cocaine. An insane man runs up to us and starts beating himself to death with a sharp rock. So we commented on his massive glutes and he felt better. even danced for us. Fast farther down the road gathering more stone. Hear &Hey guys, Im back!& He proceeds to run up and kill himself in front of us. We proceed to take his goods, and we give him back everything except the holy grail (a steel greataxe). He chases us asking for it and we pull out our pokers to scare him off. Friend proceeds to tell him some very offensive things, and I add a bit about offing himself again. He says &Have fun with your house being gone tomorrow&. House actually is gone the next day. 11/10 would talk ???? again.

This game depresses me.I love this game, so much. It is so fun and creative and is the first game that has addicted me in over a year and this is why It hurts to not recommend it but I cannot recommend this game to anyone. The reason I give this game a thumbs down is its community. Never before have I seen such a vile cesspool of offensive, homophobic twelve year olds. Some guy in full armor attacks you when you have nothing? dont worry, he will tell you how sh--it you are at the game after he killed you! Guy attacks you and he fails and dies? you are now a &fa-g--got& and a &hacker& For example, today I had a fight with a guild of 5 while I was by myself, the reason we had a fight was they caused me to lose some land I claimed. I hung one, killed 3 with an axe and 1 ran away injured. I was then verbally abused over chat by being notified that I am a &fa-g---got piece of sh---it& and then I got accused of spawning them items and that I hacked the items in for them, they wanted me to be reported. I also witness a lot of discrimination on this game, while building my own house I saw the chat fill up multiple time with racial slurs and people being called cu--nts all because someone died. Its terrible. Another reason to not buy this is the hackers. With no anti cheat or server admins hackers can go about freely on what they do oh and trust me, they do. Want to be king? nope, hacker will slay you as soon as you are crowned. Built a good base? hacker can delete blocks! Having a fair fight? nope, expect a speed hack, 1hit kill hack and god mode! I also witnessed a hacker block the entrance to the throne today so no more kings in that server till restart. Oh and also, considering there are 30 player slots per server, expect at least 4 of them players to be hackers. And finally, its all fun doing all this grinding to build an amazing house and collecting all items but at this current stage, its pointless. When watching the trailer I imagined a game with a few large guilds with a nice big village/fort/castle but no. Guilds consist of maybe 2-3 people because you cant trust anyone and there are multiple guilds. You will never feel safe enough to leave your house because it will get looted. No ones neutral, there is no politics or alliance. Everyone just wants to steal. This is a waste of time, yesterday I spent 10 hours grinding, I built a small 2 story house deep in the woods, I was a neutral player, I appeased the big guilds to keep them happy and only captured and executed players I saw murdering noobs. So you can imagine my dispair as I saw the guild of 8 members roll up with what I can describe as the most overpowered Trebuchet ever and knock my 10 hour development down in less than 5 minutes for no reason but just because they can. EDIT: *Today I joined an RP-PvP whitelist server, basically you had to be allowed into the server and there are rules as to what you can and cannot do, I am now loving the game as I have found a good community and server to play on*Whitelisted server with rules9/10Fun gameGood rulesNo hackersGood playersOffical server/community server without rules or whitelist6/10Fun gameBad communityHackersEnd result is not all thatWait like 6 months till hackers are more rare and price goes up so kids cannot buy.

You're going to like this game at first. You're going to die a few times. You're going to figure it out and start to make progress. You'll make a crappy house. Someone will loot it.You'll make a better house. Someone will loot it.You'll make a good house. You're safe for the first time. Then a hacker will come in, turn you blue, kill everyone at once and wipe the map. You'll get mad and stop playing and hope the devs do something about this one day. You're going to stop liking this game.

I held out on buying this game because I'm suspicious of Early Access games--most times it seems they are just half-hearted cash grabs. A lot of YouTubers were posting fun gameplay videos so I broke and bought it.The world is beautiful. The landscape feels like an actual land, the trees and shadows are well done, the foliage and shrubbery looks and feels great. There are ducks, sheep, chickens, elk, deer, wolves, bears, and &werewolves& (spiky mutant wolves) to fight/kill and harvest fangs, leather, wool, meat, fat, etc from. Crafting is your standard crafting: collect enough resources and pick from a menu. There is a kind of technology tree in that you upgrade your work benches from basic -& +tanning -& +stonecutting, etc. Chopping trees is strangely satisfying as they fall over then you keep chopping them to pieces. Mining is boring - there are only a handful of static nodes that respawn after a few minutes. Building is great. There are a lot of options and different materials with properties like some are more durable obviously but some others (like stone and metal reinforced wood) can only be damaged by siege equipment. I honestly really, really enjoyed harvesting resources, upgrading my tools, and planning out my little base and defenses. That said: This game is a total piece of ????. You can spend hours working on a base, literally hours (hours), only to have it destroyed and lost in ten minutes. There is only one map that's just a small island that you can run across in a few minutes. The neutral wildlife AI just runs the opposite direction from you when you attack and the hostile AI is borderline ????????... they &slow motion& straight for you and swing at the air in front of them a few times once they get close enough, after they've slid down hills and gotten stuck on any minor divet in the terrain. You can hop up on a block and they can't even touch you as you poke them to death while they swipe harmlessly at your feet. Combat is abysmal - You never know if you're going to hit or miss. Even if you feel like you're going to connect, the character animations pivot and lunge weirdly as you're strafing each other and you can't really gauge the reach of your weapon. If you're decent at landing shots, a fast weapon automatically beats any powerful weapon, because hitting them first interrupts their swing. People wordlessly attack 90% of the time and a majority of my interactions were running for my life while having javelins thrown at my back. Some will give up after a short distance but a fair amount will chase you forever. Seriously. For 20 minutes. Up a mountain, into the ocean, doesn't matter. Another joy is being captured, which sounds fun until you're on the receiving end and minding your own business when suddenly your character falls helpless on the ground and someone drags you away because you weren't listening closely enough for footsteps. Now you're in a cage or some stocks and at the mercy of some 12 year old as your character slowly starves to death and you debate about using the sharp stone you've hidden in your butt (yes, really) to smash your own face in.. but you have all this stuff on you that you'll lose. IMO the king is pointless and typically ignored unless he raises the tax rate enough to irritate people. There's no reason to be king other than to be king and it's hard to get resources because people try to kill you, so you have to use the taxed resources but if you raise the tax too high they'll all band together and come to kill you. A few servers I've been on actually went several hours without ANY king because no one even cared. Hacking is also rampant, since this is a client-side game. There have been flying people throw javelins from the sky and spawning a half dosen werewolves right on top of you, invisible people one-shotting players then deleting their houses, and more.I had a game going on a public server, until I logged in yesterday and every house on the server was gone--deleted by hackers. All of the forges, chests, workbenches, etc were still there floating in the air but the houses and structures had been deleted. So tonight after working all day I started a new game on a fresh server. Over the next 8 hours I chopped trees and tried to catch ore veins everyone was competing for while dodging person after person trying to capture me (because the admin put a &no kill on sight& rule in play but said capturing was fine). For eight hours. Until finally I had a decent little base going, made of metal reinforced wood so people would have to use siege equipment to break in, and I had the base split into three different rooms separated by strong metal doors so if they did break in, hopefully they wouldn't be able to get into all 3 areas and clean me out. I was on my way back with some resources when I discovered three guys using a ballista at point blank range to smash down just two blocks, enough room for them to squeeze into my first room. I didn't know there were three and jumped in after them swinging my swords, but ducked back out after seeing I was outnumbered. I figured that's fine, whatever, they'll get my resources, who cares... but after healing I came back again to find the one smashing my crest which gave me ownership of the area, then all they'd have to do is put down one of their own to steal the entire thing from me. I jumped in again to try to stop him but got overwhelmed again, so I took off into the mountains and this time they chased. I ended up in a 3vs1 fight, two of them throwing javelins and the other with a large axe, a hole in the side of my base, my resources gone, and soon the entire base gone. Within 15 minutes. No thanks. I'm done. Buy this game if you want for lulz, but each time you log in, everything you had could be gone. Another thing I heard pointed out is that this is the same company that made Starforge, which they left completely screwed and failed to deliver on any of their promises. We'll see how much hope Reign of Kings has in the future. For now, I'm done.

I mean the game was nice until this morning when someone in-game decided to ????ing hack, they first went to make us green, look like Shrek, he then proceeded to delete every base on the map and rope people while flying and invisible he put us in gallows and killed us. When we returned the whole base which has full stone walls and was huge! Could fit a 40 man guild, was gone. weeks worth of game-play was destroyed by this stupid hacker. He killed all the sleepers then left. Everyone then left the server, I uninstalled this game. And now am typing this up while I think eagerly.

WAY too many hackers, the game is barely playable. DO NOT buy this game without checking if they have solved the hacker issue!!!

fun game but not worth the buy at the minute because every server has hackers, not worth playing and grinding to get geared because you will be insta-killed at any minute by a hacker, game has potential but they really need to sort these ????????s out

At this moment in time the game is broken(A10) and honestly i dont think it will be heading anywhere soon. -The engine is horrible with combat feeling like your swinging your weapon in the air praying u hit the other player. The jump mechanic can we unblievable sometimes where you can triple jump over walls or simply just build blocks in thin air and get in 4 block thick walls. Ranged weapons feel like your shooting the slowest arrow ever and javelins feel like your a special kid throwing your toy in a tantrum -The community is pretty horrible. Its very rare to see someone who will actually talk to u instead of killing you on site or chasing you around the map till one of u dies of boredom and gives up.-Every server has obvious hackers who sometimes will just grief everyone on the servers for hours on end without any admins support (community servers are a little better but soon as the admin gets off everything turns to ????)-Theres no point in even building a fort or grinding out resources, while your offline ur fort will prob get trebucheted or hacked into and all those hours u spend building it and smelting iron and steel, gathering resources and robbing other players makes you feel kind of stupid for wasting your time. I give ROKs a 7/10. Its cheap but it kinda feels cheap

Its a really good game, it has a lot of good stuff in it. but i have one MAJOR issue that makes the game impossible to play. fps. i have an AMD FX 4100 Quad Core Processor 16 GB of ram a 64 bit op system and an AMD Radeon R9, and i get on average 20 fps and about every
seconds it spikes and the frames drop to 2, no to mention if i do anything relating to combat the game will do 1 of 2 thing. 1. the game will freeze for about 2 mins and when it stop freezing ill be dead. or 2. the game freezes, and outright ????ing crashes. mind you this was on a freshely wiped server with only 20 people on. ther is no good ????ing reason for this to happen, and i get it. its early in development, but devs. i cant test your game IF IT DOESNT WORK IN THE FIRST PLACE. so if you're sane, wait. wait until the sorts its ???? out. if you have 20 bucks to throw away and a comp from 500 years in the future with enough power to run this game, then go right ahead. but by dont misunderstand, i still think its a great game. everything is really well done, its just the crippling FPS and crashing problem that completly ruins the game.

Constant crashes. Not a day where i dont get over 5. Always have to restart the game. Some hackers too. Great graphics and gameplay once you get it going, although it will most likely crash on you after an hour.
