Process for appointing to 2015 University PGR Scholarships (60)
For full-time PhD students, not GTAs or people in employment
●Advertising copy is to be with Rob Costello and Nigel Shaw by 24th October 2014
●Studentships are to be advertised by November 7th & including advert on University/ Graduate School (GS) websites (www.hull.ac.uk/phd) www.jobs.ac.uk, FindAPhD, Postgraduatestudentships. A list of Key words in relation to Google search will be developed.
●Enquirers should apply online via the HYMS online application system for HYMS students and &the new online PhD Studentship application system, from the /phd web site for everybody else.
●Applications are received by the PG Admissions Service, logged, processed as applications for places to study and sent to the usual admissions contact
The deadline for applications is 2nd Febuary.
Departments will receive all applications by 13th February.
Studentship decisions (both rejections and offers of a place to study to the Admissions Service ) and nominations for funding to the GS, should be made before 10th April.
Sucessful applicants will be informed by the GS as soon as confirmed and by 17th April 2015 at the latest.
●Applications will be logged and sent to the area that appears to best match. Departments are asked to return wrongly categorised applications to the Admissions Office quickly, with a suggestion as to where they fit better e.g. in another Department, or at the Scarborough campus.
●Departments/Faculties carry out selection process and interview
●Departments interview and choose Scholarship winners and make recommendations to GS. A copy of the candidate&s Postgraduate application including degree qualifications and awarding university must be given to the GS. The Director of the Graduate School has delegated powers to approve Departmental nominees, but needs to ensure that they have a Masters, 1st or 2(i), or equivalent and that efforts are made to attract excellent new students as well as Hull graduates.
Those who are rejected for the Studentship and a place to study should be rejected by completing the Admissions recommendation form and returning the application pack to Admissions. &Please note the reason for rejections, so that Admissions can write the rejection letter, including the reason, as unsucessful in their application for a Studentship
For those to whom you would want to offer a place to study, but not the Studentship, fill in the normal Admissions recommendation form and return the application pack to Admissions, including a letter informing the applicant that they were not successful in their application for funding. The Admissions Service will forward your letter with their offer of a place to study.
For those to whom you want to offer the studentship and one reserve, complete the Admissions recommendation form (clearly marked 1st and 2nd choice) and pass the application pack to the Graduate School who will include the offer of Studentship letter in the pack and return it to Admissions who will offer a place to study and include the offer of Studentship letter. The G S will also email the letter to the sucessful candidate.
If your 1st selection turns the Studentship down the GS will offer it to your second choice.

●GS writes award letters to 2nd choice if 1
●GS monitors take-up of scholarships and re-advertises remaining scholarships if necessary.

●Digital and Creative sectors
●Looking f not necessarily sharing evenly across the 7 Institutes.
●Faculties and Institute Leaders to designate project titles and short summary and submit these to Nigel Shaw in time for advertisement deadline & 24th October.
●A &lead& Faculty/Department and named contact will be needed for each one.
●Admissions to send &Institute& applications to the Institute &lead& contact.
●Faculties and Institute Leaders to arrange reading and shortlisting of applications in their areas.
●Submit shortlist and a copy of the application form to Nigel Shaw, Graduate School
●Final selection meeting with Institute Leaders, chaired by Graduate School Director.
●Shortlisted candidates to be interviewed (by relevant Faculties and Institute Leader)
●Graduate School to receive recommendations & 10th April and send out offer letters as soon as confirmed, but by 17th April at the latest.
Interviews
There is now a PGR Interview record sheet with some standard questions. You are of course free&to add questions relevant to your discipline and the topic, but the completed record sheet needs&to be sent with the other paperwork afterwards to the Admissions Office.&
