Minecraft only loads textures once, so it should, after start up, be as fast as normal Minecraft.
Any ideas on how I can make this better than the official launcher?
In particular, I'm looking for ideas for a better Create World screen, since that isn't implemented in this launcher yet. Any ideas?

Obviously, the notification bar has to go. If it's possible, when you go to select your texture pack, the app will go to a specific folder (let's say... games/com.mojang/texturepacks) and that's where you can put all of your TPs. And maybe you can let users change their IP for faster server joining like PocketTool.
In particular, I'm looking for ideas for a better Create World screen, since that isn't implemented in this launcher yet. Any ideas?

I can't patch mods from inside the app, so I can only do cosmetic changes.

Odd. Are you trying to launch the MCPELauncher or the normal Minecraft? Try force closing both?
