In a continuing effort to provide high quality products, Autodesk has released
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 2.1.
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 2.1 also contains all the fixes included in AutoCAD
Civil 3D 2009 Update 2 (with one exception that is described below), AutoCAD
Civil 3D 2009 Update 1, AutoCAD 2009 Update 1, AutoCAD 2009 Update 2, AutoCAD
Map 3D 2009 Update 1, and AutoCAD Map 3D 2009 Update 2.
This Readme contains information regarding the installation and use of this
update. It is strongly recommended that you read this entire document before
you apply the update to your product. For your reference, you should save this
Readme to your hard drive or print a copy.

Who Should Install This Update?
This update, C3D.exe, is for all versions of AutoCAD Civil
3D 2009 running on English-language and non-English-language operating systems.
General Installation Information
It is recommended that you create a backup of all custom CUI (menu
customization) files before installing the update. These files are located
in the following locations:
Microsoft® Windows® XP: Documents and
Settings\&user name&\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2009\enu\Support
Microsoft® Windows® Vista: &user
name&\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\C3D 2009\enu\Support folder
During the installation of this update, you may be prompted for the
original installation media or network image.
The following benign error message may be displayed when installing this
update on non-English language operating systems, or when the English product
is installed on a non-English locale:
Resource Manager Error: Cannot load resource only DLL: C:\Program Files\AutoCAD
Civil 3D 2009\AecResMgr50enu.dll
This error message may also be displayed when running the AutoCAD Civil
3D Content Browser feature on certain non-English language operating systems.
If you see this error message, simply click OK and proceed with the update
installation or with using the Content Browser.
Important: You cannot run an automatic uninstall to remove this update.
To restore your version of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 to its pre-update state,
uninstall AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 and reinstall it.
Windows Command Line Switches
The Windows command line switches built into this update are as follows:
/e - Extracts the MSP file from the update executable.
/p - Extracts a patch list from the update executable.
/q - Suppresses the completion message after the update is applied. This
is useful if you use a script or batch file to apply the update to multiple
computers.
Instructions about how to use these command line switches are included in
the procedures that follow.
Applying this Update to a Stand-alone
Installation
Download C3D.exe and save it to any folder.
Insert your AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 media into your media drive.
Navigate to the folder where you saved the update.
Double-click the executable file to begin the installation.
Applying this
Update Through Your Local Network Using a Patch List
Use this procedure if you want to use Communication Center to apply this
update through your local network.
To apply this update through Communication Center using local
patch list functionality
On a machine that has AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 installed, install the Autodesk
CAD Manager Tools. To install the Autodesk CAD Manager Tools, insert the
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 product media and select Install Tools and Utilities.
On the Select the Products to Install page, select Autodesk CAD Manager
Tools. Click Next to review and accept the License Agreement, then click
Install the start the installation.
NOTE: The update should not be installed on this machine.
In a shared location, create a folder where the patches will be downloaded
to (example: \\servername\shared_folder_location\ ).
Click Start & Programs & Autodesk & CAD Manager Tools &
CAD Manager Control Utility.
Select AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 from the drop-down list and click OK.
On the InfoCenter tab, under Communication Center Panel, select Enable
Live Updates. From the drop-down list, select Receive Live Updates from
Local Network.
Select Browse and browse to the previously created shared location (example:
\\servername\shared_folder_location\ ).
Select Manage Patches. This option will connect with the Autodesk servers
and allow you to download any available patches for your current installation
of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009.
Under Manage Patches you will see AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Service Packs
listed. Select the update you want to apply. Under Action Type select
Add To Patch Folder and select Update Patch Folder.
Under details you will see &downloaded to local patch folder on
&time&&date&&.
Click Close.
In AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009, ensure the Communication Center is configured.
Once it is configured you will see that a Live Update Maintenance Patch
is available.
Applying this Update to an
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Network Administrative Image
The following two methods of distributing AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 2 apply only to administrative images created with the AutoCAD Civil 3D
2009 Network Installation wizard. After you complete these procedures,
any new deployments of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 will have the update applied
to them automatically.
NOTE: In both of the following procedures, the update
file that you download contains an MSP (Microsoft Patch) file. You must
extract that file from the executable file. To extract the MSP file from
the executable, use the /e ("extract") switch.
To add AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 2.1 to a new AutoCAD
Civil 3D 2009 administrative image
From the Autodesk Product Support website, download C3D.exe
to your local computer.
On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information,
and then click OK.
&local drive&:\&patch name& /e &local drive&:\&patch
From the installation media, select Create Deployment.
Select the location of your deployment and provide a name, and then
click Next.
Select the products you would like to install, and then click Next.
On the Configure page, select the Configure button to customize the
deployment.
Continue with the customizations of the deployment. On the Include
Service Packs page, use the ellipses button to browse to the location
of the MSP file that was downloaded and extracted from the executable
Select an option to either merge or append the installation of the
update. Merging the installation installs both Civil 3D and the update
during the product installation. Appending the installation installs
Civil 3D and then installs the update.
Complete the customizations and select Configuration Complete, then
select Create Deployment.
To apply AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 2.1 to an existing
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 administrative image
NOTE: Before applying AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 2.1
to the existing AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 administrative image, ensure that
all client machines have already been updated with Update 2.1.
From the Autodesk Product Support website, download C3D.exe
to your local computer.
On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information,
and then click OK.

On the computer where you created the original AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009
deployment there is a &modify &deployment name&& shortcut.
Double-click this shortcut.
On the Install Framework page, you can select a new name or location
for the deployment.
On the Begin Deployment page, specify a new name or leave the name as-is.
Review and make any changes required on the Review - Configure - Create
Deployment page.
Select Configure and then make any appropriate changes on the Include
Service Packs page. Now use the ellipses button to browse to the location
of the MSP file that was downloaded and extracted from the executable

Merging the installation installs both Civil 3D and the update during
the product installation. Appending the installation installs Civil 3D
and then installs the update.
Complete the customizations and select Configuration Complete, and then

Known Issues in AutoCAD Civil 3D
The following are known issues in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009.
Issue: Pipe null structures do not display when Clean Up Pipe
To Pipe Connections is selected.
Known issue: If the Clean Up Pipe To Pipe Connections check box in Pipe
Style dialog box is selected, null structures are no longer visible.
Work-around: To display the null structures, clear the check box for
the Clean Up Pipe To Pipe Connections in the Pipe Style dialog box.
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Issues
Reported with the Customer Error Reporting Utility
As a result of detailed information from customers who used the Customer
Error Reporting Utility, a number of issues in the following areas were identified
and fixed in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 2:

Issues Resolved in AutoCAD Civil
3D 2009 Update 2.1
This update includes the resolution of the following issues.
2D and 3D inside edge to inside edge pipe length values are calculated
as expected.
The fix that enabled you to save surfaces to .mms files when an out
of memory condition is encountered has been removed from AutoCAD Civil
3D 2009 Update 2.1 due to unforeseen side effects.
Previously, when a named drawing containing large surfaces was autosaved,
the .mms files saved in the temporary location along with the autosaved
drawing, were being removed inadvertently, causing them to disappear.
Now the .mms files are saved for surfaces containing two million or
more points. The missing .mms file error message no longer appears when
the drawing is closed and reopened.
Using the Etransmit command no longer results in the program closing
unexpectedly.
Issues Resolved in AutoCAD Civil
3D 2009 Update 2
This update includes the resolution of over 70 issues. This section of the
readme documents the resolved issues that previously caused loss of data or
unexpected failures of Civil 3D, or reflect a change in functionality.
Several issues that prevented the AUDIT command from working properly have
been resolved.
Selecting a large number of civil objects in a drawing with the Object Properties
window set to Autohide no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Opening a drawing after adding a new tool to the Toolbox no longer causes
the program to close unexpectedly.
Slope stake reports now display the correct Grade value.
An issue with polylines
not retaining their settings has been resolved. Previously, linetype settings
would not remain defined when a drawing was saved and reopened.
Previously the program may have closed
unexpectedly when you selected File & Save As, or used the Save As command
to change from a template to a drawing format.
An issue with migrating point group data from
previous versions of AutoCAD Civil 3D has been resolved. Previously, opening
a drawing with point group data resulted in the program closing unexpectedly.
Using the WBLOCK command to select and insert
a drawing that contains pipe network parts in profile view now works as
expected. Previously, attempting to insert a WBLOCK with pipe network data
in profile view would result in an &Invalid& message and the insertion
would not occur.
Use of the following workflow no longer results in an unresponsive
drawing or an unexpected closing of the program:
Create a drawing in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009.
Save the drawing in AutoCAD 2000 format.
Open and save the drawing in AutoCAD 2006 (or earlier version
of AutoCAD).
Reopen the drawing in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009.
Setting a feature line style when you create a feature line from a polyline
now works as expected. Previously, the style would be ignored.
The XRecord attached to a point group in the API extension dictionary in
a Civil 2008 drawing can now be accessed in Civil 3D 2009. Previously, the
XRecord to the point group did not migrate correctly.
The feature line name value can now be changed using the API. Also, the
minimum grade value no longer incorrectly displays the minimum elevation
AeccAlignment::MoveToSiteless works as expected.
The Profile View ElevationMin and ElevationMax values can be set as
expected. You must set the ElevationLocked value to True before setting
the ElevationMin and ElevationMax values. Use the following settings:
oProfileView.ElevationLocked = True
oProfileView.ElevationMin = -50.0
oProfileView.ElevationMax = 200.0
Corridor Design and Subassemblies
An issue with using the Profile Grid View panorama vista to edit profiles
has been resolved. PVI elevation edits in the Profile Grid View are now
reflected in the Corridor node on the Toolspace Prospector tab.
Volume reports are now generated as expected. Previously when generating
a volume report for a cross section, the volume calculations were incorrect.
Using the Apply To A Range Of Stations dialog box to specify a station
range for an assembly override, and then selecting the corridor and expanding
the View/Edit Corridor Section toolbar, no longer results in an error. Previously,
the error dialog box would redisplay multiple times. In addition, attempting
to save the drawing would result in the program closing unexpectedly.
Material volumes are no longer missing from section views. Previously, the
Cut Area, Fill Area, and Fill Vol properties displayed a value of zero.
Criteria Based Design
A drawing that contains design criteria and was saved in a Windows XP environment
can now be opened using Windows Vista. Previously, the design criteria file
could not be found.
Previously, it was not possible to superelevate a planar road with the
current superelevation files. Now when you change from a crowned roadway to
a planar roadway, the roadway superelevates as expected.
Cross Sections and Cross Section Views
Sample line vertices are now reported from left to right when working with
sample line data through the API. Previously, the vertices may have been
reported out of order.
Grading and Feature Lines
An issue with Stepped Offset command has been resolved. Previously, the
Stepped Offset command would not get the correct reference elevations from
the source feature line if the number of points on the offset feature line
was less than the number of points on the source feature line. It would
use zero as the reference elevation.
Creating a grading feature line from a corridor and using the Smoothing
parameters in the Create Feature Line from Corridor dialog box no longer
returns incorrect results. The feature line is smoothed as expected.
An issue with the Smoothing options in the Create Feature Line From Corridor
dialog box has been resolved. Setting the Horizontal deviation, Arc inclusion
distance, and Weeding distance parameters results in straight line segments
displaying as expected.
An issue with opening a drawing containing grading objects and pipe
network data references has been resolved. After opening a drawing containing
pipe network data references, use the AUDIT command before working with
The program no longer closes unexpectedly when you paste one surface into
another surface with the option for automatic rebuild selected. Previously
the program might close during the rebuilding process after new grading
objects were added to a grading group.
Using the Explode command on feature line arc segments
created in Civil 3D 2008 no longer results in straight line segments. The
Curve Tessellation: Mid-ordinate Distance setting on the 3D Geometry Tab
(Site Properties Dialog Box) is enabled for editing and controls how closely
the arc segment is approximated.
An issue with creating grading transitions from straight line segments
to surface targets has been resolved. In AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009, the ability
to grade to an absolute elevation target from a straight line segment was
enhanced to improve the resulting daylight line. Previously, this enhancement
resulted in possible incorrect results when creating transitions from straight
line segments to surface targets. Grading from straight line segments to
surface targets now works as expected. Use the following registry key to
enable the ability to grade to an absolute elevation target from a straight
line segment to function as it did in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.2\ACAD-\AEC\5.7\AeccLand60\EnableNewTransition
Set this option to 1 to allow the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 transition rule
to be used for grading to an absolute elevation target (default if setting
is not present).
Labels and Tables
The Grade In, Grade Out, and Dist to PVI properties for Profile Geometry Point
Labels at Grade Break now display the correct values.
Reference surface labels in drawings created in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2007 now
display in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 as expected.
Crest and sag curves are now correctly labeled in vertical geometry data bands.
Dragged profile labels from previous versions of AutoCAD Civil 3D now appear
correctly. Previously, the labels appeared in an undragged state.
Lines and Curves
The Curve from End of Object command now returns correct results when a degree
of curve is specified.
Using the Copy To Original Coordinates command to copy parcels into a
new drawing, and then saving the drawing, no longer causes the program to
close unexpectedly when you try to reopen the drawing.
When you generate a Map Check report, the Northing and Easting properties
now display the correct values.
Using the Export DGN File command on a drawing that contains parcels no longer
causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Editing a parcel curve no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Grip editing a pipe object with Osnaps enabled no longer causes the program
to close unexpectedly.
Copying pipe and structure rules now work as expected. Previously, some rules
would be missing when the drawing was reopened.
Pipe 2D inside edge to inside edge length values are now calculated as
Running the pipes rule &Pipe To Pipe Match& on a pipes-only network
no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Structure descriptions in data shortcuts are now updated
when structures are edited in the source drawing. Previously, edited structures
would retain their original descriptions.
Selecting a point with QPMODE set to 1 no longer causes the program to close
unexpectedly.
Performance is improved when using the Create Points On Grid command.
Using the WBLOCK command with points now works as expected. Previously, using
the WBLOCK command to select and insert a few selected points into a new drawing
would result in all of the points in the drawing being added to the WBLOCK.
Now only the selected points are included.
Plan Production
Matchline text is now displayed in sheets that are placed into a new drawing.
Profiles and Profile Views
Creating a data shortcut to a profile in situations where the alignment does
not exist in the drawing now places the alignment on the Alignment object
layer. Previously, the Alignment was placed on the Profile object layer.
A label set is now applied as expected when you create a reference profile.
Horizontal clipping now clips to the existing ground or the highest profile,
and the grid lines do not extend beyond the profile object.
There is a workaround to prevent layout profiles from moving when profile
views are copied and pasted. Do not use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl-C and
Ctrl-V to copy and paste a profile view. This may cause the layout profiles
to be displayed in a new location. To copy and paste a profile view:
Right-click the profile view and select Basic Modify Tools &
In the drawing, select the base point and press Enter to paste
the profile view.
Project Management and Data Shortcuts
Structure names in data shortcuts are now updated when the structure name
is changed in the source drawing.
Data references now work as expected when you copy new drawings to another
computer. Previously, the data references were broken.
Promoting a data-referenced alignment no longer causes the program to close
unexpectedly.
Checking in a drawing that contains a surface no longer causes the program
to close unexpectedly.
The $ (dollar symbol) in a file name no longer causes errors when you try
to create data shortcuts.
Undoing the creation of a reference alignment no longer results in the program
closing unexpectedly.
Using data shortcuts to reference multiple objects from multiple drawings
into a single drawing no longer causes duplicate alignments to be displayed
on the Toolspace Prospector tab when you reference multiple profiles. Now
when you reference a surface, an alignment, and multiple profiles into a drawing,
the Toolspace Prospector tab displays a single data-referenced alignment as
Now you can delete a source object reference and recreate it using the same
name. Previously, you would not have been able to use the same name for a
new data shortcut that had been previously used unless you use the external
data shortcut editor to set the name as a criteria. Now the criteria for searching
the object is HandleOrName instead of HandleOnly when you create a new data
Deleting a surface edge using a Fence selection no longer causes the
program to close unexpectedly.
The slope and slope arrow color schemes set in the surface style are
now correctly applied to surface properties.
Several issues have been resolved that were causing out of memory messages
to display when working with large surfaces.
There is a workaround to prevent the display of memory errors when working
with large surfaces. Once a surface has to stop drawing due to an out
of memory error, all surfaces in any drawing you save are saved in external
files for the remainder of the current session. If you encounter this
issue, please take the following steps:
On the Display Tab on the Surface Style dialog box, turn off
the display of all components except borders.
Turn off Automatic Save in the AutoCAD Options dialog box.
The use of Automatic Save after an out of memory error may result
in the program closing unexpectedly.
Save the drawing and exit the program. When you reopen the
drawing, the surface is displayed as expected with no memory
The MOD ELS BY command now returns the expected results for control
points and non-control points.
Importing a field book with incomplete coding no longer causes the program
to close unexpectedly.
Sea Level factors are now calculated from the Mean Elevation. Previously,
the sea level factor was calculated from the Instrument Elevation.
Issues Resolved in AutoCAD Civil
3D 2009 Update 1
This update includes the resolution of over 100 issues. This section of
the readme documents the resolved issues that previously caused loss of
data, unexpected failures of Civil 3D, or reflect a change in functionality.
You can now open a drawing in Civil 3D 2009 that was created in a previous
version. Previously, the program would close unexpectedly in certain
situations.
Selecting Arbitrary X-Y Coordinate System on the Units and Zones tab
in the Drawing Settings dialog box no longer causes the program to close
unexpectedly.
Inserting a block from a tool palette no longer causes the program to
close unexpectedly.
The shortcut notification window in a client drawing is now displayed
when the source drawing is modified and saved.
When you create a deployment and add a shortcut name in the shortcut
parameter, such as &/p c:\profile.arg&, the program no longer
closes unexpectedly when you attempt to install using the deployment.
Object styles persist as expected when you use the Copy and Paste commands
on objects. Previously, using these commands to copy and paste objects
would randomly cause some object styles to disappear.
Closing a drawing no longer causes the Toolspace Prospector window to
close unexpectedly.
A temporary drawing object that is created when you use the View/Edit
Corridor Section command is now being deleted when you exit the command.
Creating parcel lot lines, alignments, and grading feature lines from
an xref entity no longer causes the Audit command to issue an error
about invalid linetypes.
Inserting a drawing that contains proxies no longer causes the program
to close unexpectedly.
Alignments
The start station and end station properties for a fourth spiral in
a SCSSCS curve group now display the correct values in the Alignment
Entities panorama vista.
When using the API extension dictionary, objects are now properly propagated
across data references for all object types.
Performance is improved when you use AeccPoints:: AddMultiple() to add
In the AeccSettingsSurfaceBuildOptions object, the values for ElevationMin
and ElevationMax are now correct. Previously these values were reversed.
AeccStyle:: ExportTo() no longer displays a Map error dialog box.
The AeccPipe:: ConnectToStructure() method now works as expected when
you call the Disconnect() method.
AeccPoints::ImportPoints() now works as expected. Previously, the program
would close unexpectedly when running this command in a file with duplicate
point numbers.
The AeccParcel:: AddSingleSegmentLabel() and AeccParcel:: AddMultipleSegmentLabels()
methods now work as expected.
The AeccSurveyLandXMLPropertiesRoot:: getitems() method now returns
the LandXML extended properties for the object. Previously, the method
returned the LandXML properties for the survey database.
Corridor Design and Subassemblies
Alignments, feature lines, polylines, and profiles created from corridor
feature lines are now created at the correct location.
Material volume calculations are now computed correctly for subassemblies
that contain structural parts. Previously, in situations where these
subassemblies overlapped it resulted in crossing line segments and omitted
material in the material volume calculations.
Material volume calculations are now consistent across stations in situations
where surface overhang causes surfaces to join incorrectly in the cross
section view.
Layers now work as expected when you insert a DWG that contains a corridor
as an xref. Previously, the layer settings were ignored.
Using the View/Edit Corridor Section command when data references are
broken no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Hatch components are now configured properly in section views. Previously,
they displayed as solid black.
Using the View/Edit Corridor Section command to edit the lane width
of the LaneInsideSuperLayerVaryingWidth subassembly now works as expected.
The Import Subassembly command now supports
a package file that contains multiple localized languages. At import
time the localized language that matches the installation will be extracted.
The Frequency setting along curves in corridors is now working as expected.
Previously, this setting was only honoring a section of the curve.
Cross Section Views
Cross sections now update consistently and reflect changes that are
made to the corridor using the View/Edit Corridor Section command.
Sample line label visibility is now determined by the sample line layer.
Previously, the visibility was determined from the sample line group
The section 1 and section 2 columns are now correctly displayed by default
in the Section View Bands dialog box. Previously, they were hidden by
Corridor sections that are included as xrefs in a drawing are now drawn
as expected.
Grading and Feature Lines
Elevations at grading projection line points can now be edited. Previously,
in situations where the start or end of a grading touched a PI point
of the feature line, those elevations could not be edited.
Creating a feature line from an alignment and then attempting to weed
the feature line using the Options button on the Feature Line Properties
dialog box no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Creating a feature line from an alignment, with the Weed Points option
cleared, now creates the feature line with correct data. Previously,
the feature line would extend beyond the length of the associated profile
and it would ignore the specified elevation values.
Using the Create Feature Lines From Alignment command and selecting
the option to Weed Points no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Creating a feature line from a polyline now creates critical curves.
Previously, there were conversion errors in situations where there were
very short lines between two arcs.
Editing the curve radius on a feature line no longer causes the program
to become unresponsive.
Using the Stepped Offset command no longer causes the program to become
unresponsive.
Grading feature lines created from a corridor feature line that contains
gaps or breaks are now created in the correct location.
Daylight lines are now created correctly for gradings that overlap each
Surfaces are now built correctly from grading groups. Previously, the
grading surface did not always respect the grading results. To ensure
correct results when you open a drawing, you should rebuild the surface.
Erasing a grading, using the Undo command, and then saving the drawing
no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly when you try to reopen
the drawing.
Several issues involving grading objects and feature lines on locked
layers have been resolved and the program no longer closes unexpectedly
when the drawing is saved or the layer is unlocked.
Creating a grading transition with a near-zero distance is no longer
allowed. Previously, entering values smaller than 0.0001 would cause
the program to close unexpectedly.
Using the Audit command on drawings created in Civil 3D 2008 no longer
changes the elevation points on feature lines.
Opening a drawing that contains shortcuts
after using VBA no longer causes the program to become unresponsive.
The grade in and grade out properties for Profile Geometry Point labels
at Profile Start, Profile End, Overall Low Point, Vertical Curve-Tangent
Intersect, Distance to Previous, and Distance to Next now display the
correct values.
Points that are imported with a scale in the parameters now display labels
correctly. Previously, the labels were offset.
The Labels Properties dialog box now displays the specified reference
text object name.
The Vertical Reverse Curve Intersect Geometry Point label now has the
correct abbreviation, VRC. Previously, the text displayed as VCC.
Important: Existing drawings that contain labels for compound/reverse
curve points will not be updated. You must delete the existing labels
and then re-label the geometry points for the labels to have the correct
Lines Curves

Selecting a pipe when the ribbon is displayed no longer causes the program
to close unexpectedly.
Importing a pipe network from a LandXML file, and then deleting some
pipe network objects and exporting the revised pipe network to LandXML
no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
You can now add a part family to a parts list.
When you lay out pipes, the program now accepts the point that you select
on screen as an endpoint. Previously, the program would randomly ignore
the selected point and the command line would continue to prompt you
to select a point.
Plan Production
Sheet numbers on match lines are now resolved if the Sheet Set Manager
.DST file is moved from its original location to a supported search
path location.
Matchline text is now displayed in sheets that are placed into a new
drawing that contains multiple view frame groups.
In situations where child overrides exist in point labels, the arrow
is now displayed in the Edit Label Styles dialog box to indicate the

Project DWFx files are now displayed properly when you use the Preview
option on the Toolspace Prospector tab.
Dependencies are now displayed as checked out. Previously, when you
checked out a drawing from Vault that contained a dependent drawing
the dependent drawing did not display as checked out.
Vault Explorer now displays &where used& and &used
by& for dependencies.
The Name field is no longer read-only in the New Project dialog box
when you access this dialog box by right-clicking a survey database
on the Survey tab and selecting Add To New Vault Project.
Opening a drawing in Civil 3D, logging into Vault, and then and setting
the working folder no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
You can migrate Vault-based project XML files to the data shortcut
structure using the following process:
Download the latest versions of all drawings (log into Vault
& set the current project & get the latest version).
Open the Data Shortcut Editor.
Browse to open the project.xml file located in the local
project folder.
From within the Data Shortcut Editor, use search and replace.
Search for $ and replace this with the local folder name (C:\Civil
3D Projects).
Use SaveAs to create a _Shortcuts structure in the local
project folder.
Remove the old project from Vault.
The migration is completed and drawings that are downloaded
from the server will be treated as non-Vault drawings.
Data shortcut references now work as expected when you open the
drawing using the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 As AutoCAD. Previously,
all data shortcut references were broken.
Undoing a check out of a file, and then deleting the file and the folder
in Vault Explorer, no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly
when you attempt to add a file to the project from Civil 3D.
Shortcuts are now linked to the correct project. Previously, the absolute
path of shortcuts was saved during a temporary save and that caused
the shortcuts to be linked to incorrect projects.
Turning on the display of points in the surface style for a large surface
no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Surfaces created from DEM .asc files will use the drawing units if no
unit is specified in the .asc file.
Creating a surface from a DEM that has the Files of Type set to ESRI
Binary Grid (*.adf) no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Computing a volume surface no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Using the Bounded Volumes command now returns the correct volumes.
Rebuilding a grading surface after moving the end of a feature line
no longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Using the Surface Properties command on a finished ground surface no
longer causes the program to close unexpectedly.
Negative contour lines are now displayed correctly.
Previously, if surface data that existed in the specified contour range
consisted of a single data point, negative contour lines were not displayed
for the surface.
On the Survey tab in Toolspace, the previews for Figures, Networks, and
Setups now work as expected.
When the CgPoints option is cleared in the Import Survey LandXML dialog
box, associated figures are no longer created.
The LandXML Extended Properties are now saved after you close a survey database.
The Name and Description fields in the item list view for a new Network
and for Network Properties are now displayed when the Preview options are
Reimporting a field book after using the Browse To Survey Data command no

AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Module Loading Hotfix
This utility resolves an issue where the incorrect loading of modules
caused the program to close unexpectedly when you tried to open drawings
from a previous release that contained point objects.
Resolved in AutoCAD 2009 Update 2
The following fixes in the AutoCAD 2009 Update 2 are also included in the
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 2.

3D Navigation Tools
When you use the ViewCube in some drawings, AutoCAD freezes.
If you create a wipeout object through .NET API, a fatal error may occur.
Annotation Scaling
The scale of annotative text changes when you use LISP entmod() to change the properties of the annotative text.
Attributes
When a drawing contains xrefs, the -ATTEDIT command fails.
Autodesk Buzzsaw
In the File Navigation dialog box, when you use the Add a Buzzsaw location shortcut option, AutoCAD crashes.
When you copy and paste a dynamic block, associative hatches do not work.
After you redefine a block definition, associative hatches in dynamic blocks display incorrectly.
When you open a drawing, a polyline in a block may have a very large width.
After you open a drawing,
some dynamic blocks lose their dynamic properties.
Data Extraction
Data Extraction cannot finish operations in some cases.
The Data Extraction Combine Record Mode & Sum values option does not work correctly.
DGN Support
When you import some DGN files, AutoCAD crashes.
If alternate units is on and you edit dimension text, the alternate units text is duplicated.
Export a Layout to Model Space
If .NET 3.5 Service Pack 1 is installed and you use the EXPORTLAYOUT command
on some layouts, AutoCAD may stop responding.
The FIND command performs slowly when you
search for text.

When you bind a drawing with an xref that contains annotative hatches, AutoCAD crashes.
Hide/Shade
When you use the HIDE command with a drawing that contains text, some objects may not be hidden.

Mleader custom arrowheads are not brought over to the drawing from the Tool palette.
Multiline Text (mtext)
When you edit mtext in a viewport, it may be duplicated in other viewports.
Object Snaps
polylines and mesh objects do not work correctly.
plot upside-down, an OLE object does not plot correctly.
A drawing that contains hatches and gradients may plot slowly.
When plot area is set to View, AutoCAD LT may crash.
When you attempt to publish multiple sheets with PUBLISHCOLLATE=1, only the first sheet of the set is plotted.
Quick Properties
When you edit multiple mtext objects through the Quick Properties palette, AutoCAD crashes.
When you render some drawings, AutoCAD runs out of memory.
If the ribbon is displayed and you select portions of a mtext object that contains multiple
formats, the mtext object becomes distorted.
When you select objects in groups, AutoCAD may crash.
When you edit text with space before or after the text within a table cell, AutoCAD crashes.
When you move text to a new position within a drawing, it disappears.
Tool Palettes
When you attempt to edit the properties of multiple Tool Palette tools, an Out of Memory crash may occur.

When a .NET function with a LispFunction attribute has the return type as object, an exception is thrown in AutoCAD.
Annotation Scaling
A drawing that contains a large number of anonymous blocks and copies of annotative entities created in AutoCAD 2007, or an earlier release, opens slowly in AutoCAD 2009.
A scale is infinitely enumerated when you insert a drawing that contains the same scale as a block or an external reference (xref).
Attributes
When you attempt to display a tooltip of a multiline text (mtext) attribute that contains 281 characters or more, AutoCAD crashes.
When you move a block using an insertion grip, mtext attributes move incorrectly.
When the default value of an mtext
attribute in a block contains a field, you cannot edit the attribute text to replace the field with other data.
you insert or redefine a block that contains attributes on a locked layer, AutoCAD crashes.
When you change the scale of a block through the Properties Palette, an attribute displays incorrectly.
Export a Layout to Model Space
When you export a layout to model space the following occurs:
The linetype scale changes.
Dimension arrowheads do not display.
Text does not rotate correctly.
Drawing properties are lost.
External Reference ESW
The External References palette does not display when auto-hidden and used with the XREF or IMAGE commands are used.
When you recreate a hatch boundary, it consists of separate line segments rather than a closed polyline.
Hide/Shade
When you plot, objects in an xref are not correctly hidden.
Menu Browser
You cannot access the menu browser in a non-English version of AutoCAD using the shortcut Alt+Key.
Multileader (mleader)
When created on a rotated UCS, a multileader does not respect POLAR or ORTHO settings.
Multiline Text (mtext)
When you drag and drop a drawing while the
In-Place Text Editor is active, AutoCAD crashes.
When some of the values in the
In-Place Text Editor
are changed, AutoCAD crashes.
Some mtext objects with double byte characters display as a single line.
When you attempt to save a file with a long file name, AutoCAD may crash.
When you drag and drop a file from Windows Explorer into the AutoCAD title bar while in Single Document Interface (SDI) mode, AutoCAD may crash.
When you attempt to open multiple files from
Windows Explorer, only the first selected file opens.
Partial Open
When the OPENPARTIAL system variable is set to 1, if you use the PURGE command, drawings may become corrupted.

Property Palette
In the Properties palette, the Dimension Style control may display an incorrect dimension style name.

Quick Properties
When you change the theme of your operating system while running AutoCAD and
then click the Quick Properties window, AutoCAD crashes.
When you open some valid drawings, you are prompted to
use the RECOVER command.
When you use the RENDER command with certain drawings that contain textured
objects, AutoCAD crashes.
When acad.CUI is loaded as a partial CUI, some buttons in the multiline text (mtext) ribbon contextual tab fail.
On a ribbon panel, you may not be able to move items between rows.
A ribbon panel continues to display after it is removed from a ribbon tab.
A button image used on a ribbon panel that is loaded from a resource DLL file lacks a transparent background.
If you transfer a ribbon panel and a tab, buttons display small.
Enterprise, main, and partial CUI files display multiple ribbon tabs in workspaces.
You cannot control a ribbon tab when you use more than one non-AutoCAD CUI file.
A ribbon tab and/or menu macro may not function properly when referenced from multiple CUI files.
If you load a CUI file that references a missing BMP file, a fatal error displays.
Visual LISP
The AutoLISP Redraw function fails to hide or highlight objects.
When you zoom while inserting some blocks, AutoCAD crashes.
Known Issues with This Update
After you apply this update, you may experience the following ribbon customization-related problems:
An Incorrect or Missing Ribbon Tab
Known Issue: When you
display a ribbon tab from a partial or Enterprise CUI file, the ribbon tab
displays incorrectly or is missing.
Workaround: To correctly display
a ribbon tab, recreate the workspace used to display the ribbon tab from scratch. Do not duplicate or attempt
to update the workspace. Once you create a new workspace, set the workspace
current. The ribbon tab should display correctly.
For a partial CUI file, before
you add a ribbon tab to a workspace, use the Customize User Interface (CUI) Editor
to change the customization group name of the file. The customization group
name is represented by the uppermost node of the tree in the Customization In
A Blank Image for a Command
Known Issue: On a ribbon panel, the
image associated with a command defined in the Command List pane displays as a
blank icon.
Workaround: To recreate a ribbon command item on
a ribbon panel, delete it. Then, from the Command List pane, add the command
to the ribbon panel.
Resolved in AutoCAD Map 3D 2009® Update 2
The following fixes in the AutoCAD Map 3D 2009 Update 2 are also included
in the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 Update 2.1.
Corrupt drawing data can result in a crash while executing ADE Query.
When you hover over entities with generating links, an out of memory condition
ADE Save Back
In the Map Classic workspace, the Map & Save Back & Save to Source
Drawing command creates an invalid backup (.BAK) drawing file.
AutoCAD Interoperability
Selecting all the objects in a large drawing causes an out of memory condition
resulting in a program crash.
Classification
When you define a Feature Class using Object Data and you do not have administrator
rights, AutoCAD Map 3D crashes when you try to save or define the Object Classification
definition you want to use. This issue only applies if you are running Windows
Data Table
When you edit FDO data in the Data Table and a VBA project is loaded, AutoCAD
Map 3D crashes.
Display Manager
Draping vector data on a surface does not work correctly after applying AutoCAD
Map 3D Update 1.
Annotative blocks are not recognized by the Style Editor.
The fence line style does not display correctly at all zoom levels.
After using the Style Dialog to change the style for a layer, memory is not

Editing a Raster Style while the incorrect band details are displayed results

When you create a SHP polygon from a MPolygon object, the directions of loops
are reversed.
If you connect to a Shape data set with a corrupted SHX index file, AutoCAD
Map 3D crashes.
When you load multiple WMS layers with the Cache WMS data option enabled,
AutoCAD Map 3D crashes.
When you combine WMS layers into one layer, and then set the combined layer's
background to a customized color, an exception is thrown in AutoCAD Map 3D.
GIS Annotation
When you have a drawing with checked-out annotation points, zooming to a
very small view scale causes AutoCAD Map 3D to crash.
Import/Export
When you export to a Shape file, multipolygons are split into separate features.
When you import data, some attribute values are not retrieved from fields.
When you export a text element to a Shape file as a text object, table columns
for the text size and angle are missing.
When you export nested polygons to a Shape file, the loop directions can be
When you import data from ArcSDE, the import fails.
When you import an SDF file created by AutoCAD Map 3D, the imported MPolygons
may be distorted.
When you export a DWG file to an SDF and then connect to the resulting SDF,

Shape files exported from AutoCAD Map 3D are not compatible with ArcGIS 9.2.
When you export MPolygons with multiple loops to SHP, the output Shape file
contains only multiple single polygons.
Geometry in inserted viewports is not published to DWF files.
Map Explorer
When you create a drawing index for an attached drawing, AutoCAD Map creates
an invalid backup (.BAK) drawing file.
When you Quick View on attached drawings containing a large number of entities,
AutoCAD Map 3D crashes.
Map Options
When you clear the cache, AutoCAD Map 3D crashes.
When you drop a template file into the drawing area and attempt to save your
changes, AutoCAD Map 3D crashes.
Numerous memory leaks have been addressed.
When you open and close a drawing, AutoCAD Map 3D leaks 12 GDI objects.
When you use the PEDIT command to join some polylines, AutoCAD Map 3D crashes.
Plot/Publish
When you publish a drawing containing a large number of entities with object
data, AutoCAD Map 3D crashes.
When you publish to DWF using a password, an AutoCAD Map 3D error report displays.
If you change the plot scale of a layout view before using Plot Preview, the
preview may be blank.
When you plot a layout view using a non-rectangular viewport, your plot may

When the stylization rule uses a calculated property and a default
style rule does not exist, selection highlighting and checked out object rendering
do not work.
Display Manager
When you add a new theme to your drawing and use global characters
for the legend labels, you cannot save your drawing as an AutoCAD 2004/LT
2004 drawing.
When you hover over a rotated point feature, a different highlighting
style appears for this feature than for a non-rotated feature.
The Legend thumbnail becomes a long line after you zoom in and out
of your drawing.
When you perform simple ACAD commands, which trigger a ACAD reactor
to REGEN, AutoCAD Map 3D crashes.
When you transform a coordinate system for FDO data, the composite

FDO Connect
When you connect to feature sources with unknown coordinate systems,
long schema loading times can occur.
FDO Coordsys
Changing the coordinate system of a map may cause performance issues
and change the drawing order of the layers.
FDO Create/Edit
The MAPFEATUREEDIT command does not work properly.
When using the COPY command, if you cancel the check out of a large
number of features, AutoCAD Map 3D becomes inactive.
When you create a new road using an arc, you cannot check it into the
SHP source.
When you select to work offline after deleting a SHP feature, a fatal
error occurs.
When you copy a checked-out object while in 3D, AutoCAD Map 3D crashes.
You cannot copy a feature on a joined layer if that feature has a match
in the secondary table.
OSNAP intersection does not work correctly with FDO features that are
not checked-out.
When you use the MAPLINESTRINGCREATE command, the node OSNAP does not
work for some points.
FDO Raster
When you use FDO Raster, the resolution of the image decreases compared
to using the MAPIINSERT command.
When you zoom in on a 24 bit uncompressed tiff, the alignment of the
image shifts.
Geospatial API
In the Draw Order mode, platform API reports incorrect layer group
information.
When you remove layers and reinsert them, the draw order changes.
GIS Annotation
When you create a new annotation and add multiple '\P' codes to the
label text, the space progressively increases between each line.
The new annotation text size differs from the old stylization.
Device context labels render at twice the expected size.
The plot preview is inconsistent with the map drawing.
The text features in the Quick View Layout appear larger than in the
Map drawing.
GIS Display Manager
When you paste an FDO layer into the Display Manager, the feature graphics
will not display in your map.
When the theming dialog attempts to retrieve a non-existent symbol
using the index from a previous selection, an unhandled exception occurs.

When you publish block symbols to Autodesk MapGuide, AutoCAD Map 3D
ignores the symbol's insertion point.
