  怕死让人学会自我保护、遵纪守法
  据说,即便强大如切?格瓦拉,也会在被捕前大喊“别开枪!我是格瓦拉!我活着比死更值钱!”那么普通人,也就无需掩藏自己对死亡的恐惧了。按照达尔文物竞天择、适者生存的物种进化理论,动物性的躯体是人类之所以为人的物质基础,怕死,则是人作为动物的天性。碰到火会缩手,溺水会挣扎,在这一点上我们与灵长目兄弟们别无二致。正是由于人类如此“贪生怕死”,才得以使物种延续至今。因为惧怕被冻死,人类想出了钻木起火;因为惧怕被外族攻击死,人类想出了结群而居;因为惧怕被糊涂死,人类想出了在龟甲上刻象形文字……倘若所有人类都把死亡视作回归故里那般亲切,人这种动物恐怕早已消失在地球的食物链里。
  在过去,教育口径过于强调“勇敢”二字,所以大家挺着身板走路,简直以玩命为荣,好像不怕死才显示活得有尊严。而现如今,“贪生怕死”却往往是遵纪守法的一种新美德。因为你留恋生命,所以不会轻易在十字路口闯红绿灯;因为你眷恋生活,所以不会轻易与人发生口角、撸袖子打架。“怕死”也在无形中令人更理性地生存,也让社会变成一个拥有秩序的存在。而当我们遭遇地震海啸、洪水滑坡、疾病侵袭,人类怕死的基因便重新被激发,各种险境求生指南层出不穷,为的只是在2012到来之前,我们还能继续在食物链的最顶端,岿然不动。
  我们怕死却老说“笑死了“好想死”
  在哈姆雷特的自白里,“生存还是死亡,这是个必答之问题。死亡如睡眠,倘若一眠能了结心灵之苦楚与肉体之百患,那么,此结局就是可盼的。”所以虽然对死亡有无限恐惧,但当人生面对绝望时,死亡有时对活人而言也有着可怕的吸引力。生活中,很多人遭遇不顺心便整天唠叨着“好想死啊”“烦死了”,大抵是仅仅就算谈论死亡,都可以令自己从现世的烦乱中得到暂时的解脱。

  圣人孔子在回答季路问事鬼神时说:“未知生,焉知死?”活着的时候还没有把怎么做人研究透,哪来的时间去研究死人的事情。因此在传统的中国文化里,死亡是一个不能被轻易谈起的禁忌,在某些乡村,小孩说一个“死”字会挨打,老人过世要说“走了”或“去了”,这些都是中国传统世俗道德对于生死的态度,实际上也是一种怕死敬生的存在哲学。
