Everyone has memorable moments in their life. Maybe it is the day you get married. Maybe it is one of your birthdays. Maybe it is the day you receive your first toy. The memories will go on forever. And every day we create new ones.& In America, high school dances are the memories that many find very memorable and everlasting. The tradition lives on with three dances in every high school year.
High School Dance is American tradition. These dances really are something. The three dances are called homecoming, turnabout, and senior prom.
Let me introduce to you a little about each of the dances. Homecoming takes place in the beginning of the school year. It is a semi-formal dance. Female students in high school wear medium length formal dresses and men wear suits, ties, and tuxes. If a girl has a date, she will wear a bunch of flowers on her wr and men will wear a pin on corsage on their tux. This is true to all of the dances. Homecoming has a theme to its dance just like the two others. They range from being a Hollywood red carpet theme to an 80’s theme. It usually takes place in the school commons (cafeteria) or gymnasium. Homecoming has loud music, disco lights, light beams, music videos, and a live DJ. They serve snacks like cookies, crackers, and sweets, along with juice, punch, and other drinks. Every year they elect a “King” and “Queen.” They are from the senior class of high school. They are nominated for being the kindest, the most well rounded, student of their class. They are voted among their peers. After the dance, they will go home as being Homecoming King or Homecoming Queen. Each is rewarded with a crown. The dance lasts from 7 to10 pm. Last school year, our school homecoming theme was the masquerade. Students wore nice masks and elegant dresses and danced to the beat of the music. It was packed with students!
Turnabout is a winter dance. It’s also very much like a semi-formal: dresses, corsages. The themes are usually winter wonderland, or fire and ice, and so on. They are usually related to the winter aura. Tickets are sold for $15 to $20, at least in my school. However, a lot of students, in fact more than 3/4 of the student body attend these dances. Turnabout dance is very entertaining, and best of all, the money made by the student’s admission fee are used for a good cause. They are all donated to charities and hospitals.
Lastly, Senior Prom is the most important dance in high school. They are very important to the parents, grandparents, as well as the students. It is a big deal！A few families will spend over $1000 on one dress, while many families spent in the hundred dollar range. After all, senior prom is the last dance in high school for seniors. Only the senior students may attend this prom. However, if a senior has a date from a different class, then they may attend as well.
It’s a very elegant dance. Girls wear long dresses. Before the dance, senior dates and friends would take a lot of pictures by themselves, with their friends, and with their family. They are called “senior prom pictures”. Prom does not necessarily mean needing a date to go. In fact, many go with a group of friends. Friends and dates go to the prom by limo. Prom doesn’t take place in school. In fact they are held on reserved facilities like ferry boats or hotels. They serve a nice dinner before the dance. However, prom tickets are usually up to $60 to $100. This money is paid to the decorations, the facility used, and so forth. However, most students pay the money for admissions. The dress, the corsage, the tuxedos, the limo, the dinner, and the pictures are expensive.& However, since it is a big part of their high school life, and they often wouldn’t miss it for the world.
